With a retractable spiked design, the speed bump allows traffic to flow only in a single direction. When the vehicle enters in the correct direction the spikes will submerge into the construction of the bump allowing the vehicle to pass unobstructed. If the vehicle were to exit using the same lane, the spikes will not retract but continue to stand tall.
